Spain is more fun when you explore it in Spanish!

“I want to practice my Spanish but…

…I speak English at home and at work!”

…I feel really nervous when I actually have to say something.”

…my Spanish friends speak too fast and they switch to English to speak with me.”

…I’m embarrassed when I tell people I have been living here for six years and I’m still struggling with the language!”

Do you resonate with any of these comments? If you do, you are not alone. I feel you!

Learning a language is definitely a life-long adventure and it’s not always easy to find people to practice Spanish with.

You are maybe tired of going to language exchanges because no one corrects you or is able to explain the intricacies of the language.

You want to be part of the community but sometimes you feel more like an outsider because you don’t know enough about the culture and you don’t understand -yet- the expressions and slang people use around you.

Or maybe you already master the language and even work in a Spanish environment, but you feel like you are always using the same expressions and avoiding the tricky aspects of grammar because there are still some areas where you have difficulties.

Speaking Spanish may be one of the biggest challenges you can undertake, but you don’t have to go through it on your own.

I have created a range of courses that will help you improve your confidence with Spanish in a relaxed atmosphere so that you can enjoy learning, practicing and speaking it.

SPANISH AT YOUR PACE (One to one)

A safe space where you can ask me any question and learn more about the Spanish we speak in Spain

If you feel like you need to work at your own pace, one to one lessons are the best option. Maybe you need someone to walk you through the differences between the past tenses in Spanish. Or perhaps you need to speak with your children’s teachers or with your neighbours, but you don’t feel confident about how to start the conversation. Maybe you want to start including some informal expressions when you send a message to your Spanish speaking friends, or you want to understand the slang the locals use. In all of these cases, one to one lessons are a great choice because we will focus on your specific needs.

We can meet in person at a cafe in Cabañal or online on Zoom.

Do you have a study buddy you would like to pair up with? No problem! These are the packages I offer for two people:

SPANISH CIRCLE (Online groups)

Practice your Spanish with other learners from anywhere in the world

Do you enjoy practicing the language with others but you need the flexibility of online learning? In these cases, my online groups are for you: busy people who want to practice their Spanish with other students at the same level.

In my online groups we follow a specific programme with a range of materials that allows you to see where you are going. You also get plenty of speaking practice with the group and in pairs, with some feedback from myself so that you can improve your pronunciation and how you express yourself.

My online group courses usually last for 10-12 weeks and we meet once a week for 1 hour.

On January 7th we will start a new intermediate online course called «Personajes, capítulos y melodías», where we will talk about traditional stories from our childhood, movies, books and music, and we’ll review the past tenses and use the subjunctive. Contact me if you would like to know more about it!:

MI CASA, TU CLASE (Face to face groups)

Teaching and learning online is great, but nothing beats a face to face lesson with a coffee (or some wine!)

If your busy schedule allows you some «you time» in the evenings and you would like to make friends in Valencia, face to face groups may be just what you are looking for.

What I love the most about these groups is that they help create a small community in the neighbourhood, since most of us live in Cañamelar or Cabañal and we sometimes run into each other at bars or shops. Some of my students from my face to face groups have become good friends and meet up regularly for a drink, to do their homework together or even to go on a trip!

«Mi vida en Valencia»: a course for false beginners

«Mi vida en Valencia» is a 10 week course to review the basics in Spanish and keep the conversation going! It is a course for those who have already learned the basics but need to practice speaking and review some grammar.

In this course we will speak about our everyday habits, we’ll discover if we lead stressful lives, we’ll talk about our «barrio» (neighbourhood) and we’ll share interesting experiences we’ve had using the past tense «pretérito perfecto».

«Cabañal Spanish Speaking Club»: conversation course for intermediate students

«Cabañal Spanish Speaking Club» is a 10 week course for intermediate students to practice speaking. We will talk about changes we’ve gone through, our talents and what we’re terrible at, life in other planets and we’ll debate about the noisiest festival on Earth: Las Fallas. HAVE FUN IN VALENCIA!

Tours, workshops and special events in my hometown

Bored in Valencia? No way! Every now and then I organise special events in Valencia, such as a tour of «Semana Santa» in Cabañal, where we learned about how people in my neighbourhood celebrate Easter, or a workshop on scrapbooking where we made a collage in Spanish representing our life in Valencia.

In 2023 I took some students to a famous «churrería» in Ruzafa, where we bought some «buñuelos» (like a fried doughnut, very typical in Fallas) and hot chocolate, and we enjoyed this in the beautiful Parque Central.
